CM Punk wants to be Ricky Rabies again.
Punk spoke with Deadline‘s Rosy Cordero about some of the acting projects he has coming up. During the conversation, Punk teased two of the upcoming roles he has secured and mentioned wanting to get Heels picked back up. Heels aired on STARZ for two seasons before being canceled in September 2023. Since then, fans and the cast have mentioned trying to find a new home for the pro-wrestling-centered series, and it looks like Punk is also on board.
“[Balancing acting and wrestling] is a lot easier now. It was harder back in the day because wrestling was the lion’s share of what I did, and I wasn’t allowed to do other stuff. I have pre-existing relationships and projects I work on that are grandfathered into my contract,” CM Punk explained. “I typically do Monday Night Raw live on Netflix every week. But if I need to dip out for two weeks to shoot an independent film, I can always do that.
“We’re trying to petition Netflix to do a third season of Heels. I have two projects coming down the line that I’m very excited about,” Punk added. “One is the TV show Revival that will air on Syfy, and a really, really fun movie called Night Patrol, written and directed by Ryan Prows. I don’t want to give away too much but it’s night patrol, LAPD, Bloods, Crips, vampires.”
CM Punk played coy on his specific role in Night Patrol. However, Cordero later added that sources confirmed Punk is playing a vampire in the film.
Will Heels return for a third season?
CM Punk played journeyman wrestler Ricky Rabies on Heels for two seasons. He said his portrayal was partially inspired by the late Tracy Smothers. Netflix acquired the rights for the show after STARZ cancelled the series.
Lead actor Stephen Amell, who played Jack Spade, also wants the show to return for a third season. He appeared on Inside of You With Michael Rosenbaum and said there was a “framework” for new seasons on the streaming platform, but he made it clear that the main issue would be getting all the original cast and crew back and syncing up all of their schedules. Amell later said that there was a good chance of Netflix picking up a new season of Heels, because Netflix wouldn’t have picked it up otherwise.
