Dominik Mysterio recently surprised many by acknowledging his father, Rey Mysterio’s, influence in professional wrestling
On the Intoxicados Podcast, Dominik Mysterio was asked to name a WWE superstar who changed the company in a big way. In a surprising response, he admitted it was difficult, but he gave credit to father but ultimately recognition. He mentioned Rey Mysterio as a pioneer who brought attention to a previously underrepresented wrestling style.
Dominik reluctantly gives his father credit
“Honestly, I can say there were a handful of people that had a hand in revolutionizing the sport into what it is today. Unfortunately, my dad being one of them because of his style. A lot of people didn’t see that lucha style and he was one of the first guys to bring it in and make people give a shit about it. He was one of those guys that came in there and revolutionized the sport. I can list off a bunch of others, but he comes off the top of my head. As much as I hate to say his name and give him credit for it, it’s the reality.” [H/T: Fightful]
For example, Dominik has worn a “Latino Heat” style shirt. He was also photographed looking at the Intercontinental Championship the same way Eddie did 25 years prior. Rey explained what it’s been like watching fans embrace that element of Dominik’s history on WWE television. Check out his full answer here.
