Remember when Sheamus and Drew McIntyre called themselves The Banger Brothers in WWE? We wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t.
The Banger Brothers tag team in WWE didn’t last long. Sheamus reflected on the short-lived tag team recently on The Pat McAfee Show.
“Remember the Banger Brothers? The thing back in the day, me and Drew McIntyre,” Sheamus said. “The Banger Brothers. That got shut down real fast, by the way.” [H/T: Fightful]
So why was this tag team name incredibly short-lived?
According to Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp (via Fightful Select), the team name was created by Sheamus and McIntyre in reference to the porn website, Bang Bros. However, many higher-ups within WWE at the time weren’t aware of the connection.
McIntyre would make some pitches to the WWE creative team regarding the name that would poke fun at the website. But once WWE caught wind of what the name was about, they immediately nixed the name, and that put an end to the Banger Brothers.
