Charles Robinson officiated Goldberg‘s WWE retirement match, but his in-ring duties came at the expense of his rib.
At WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, Goldberg took on Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship. The Hall of Famer attempted a spear on the Ring General but Gunther evaded, causing Goldberg to take down referee Charles Robinson with the devastating maneuver.
Taking to Instagram, Robinson revealed he suffered a cracked rib as a result of the impact before noting he’ll return to WWE for SmackDown in San Antonio this Friday. Check out the full announcement below:
“Thanks @goldberg95! Never fear…I am ALL MAN and I can’t be kept down! I will return for @wwe #smackdown next week in #SanAntonio! #wrestling #nofear“
Charles Robinson took a spear from Goldberg years ago
Saturday Night’s Main Event wasn’t the first time Charles Robinson felt the devastating impact of Goldberg’s spear. The veteran referee gave fans one of the most iconic sells to the spear on a 2003 edition of RAW when he got hit with the move meant for Chris Jericho.
This writer can’t imagine taking a bump at 30, let alone getting hit with Goldberg’s spear. Oh, but here’s Robinson getting his rib cracked and joking about it. He previously joked about not seeing John Cena during their viral spot at WWE Night of Champions 2023.
And while we’re on the subject of jokes, check out this hilarious Bret Hart meme that went viral after NBC cut the feed on Goldberg’s retirement speech at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event.
