While speaking on No-Contest Wrestling, Mysterio was asked if there’s anything from the old days he’s glad is no longer part of wrestling. He said he couldn’t think of much but shared that he really enjoys mixed tag team matches.
“You know, I really enjoy those. I think that just gets really creative when it comes down to seeing your favorite female superstar and male superstar. I know we’re a little bit sensitive with a man putting his hands on a woman so we’re trying to stay away from that, but overall, just the beautiful sport of professional wrestling in its full capacity is so beautiful to watch man. You enjoy it, I enjoy it as a wrestler. I can only imagine how the fans enjoy it as fans.”

Mixed tag team matches are less common in WWE today. However, WWE launched the Mixed Match Challenge in 2018 and ran it for two seasons. The show featured several memorable moments between mixed tag teams like Alexa Bliss and Braun Strowman, Becky Lynch and Sami Zayn, AJ Styles and Charlotte Flair, and more.
The Miz and Asuka won the first season, while R-Truth and Carmella captured the victory in the second. Rey Mysterio, who is interested in bringing back mixed tag team matches, has recently taken part in mixed tag matches. He was seen teaming up with his LWO partner, Zelina Vega.
