If Joe Hendry misses out on facing John Cena during his retirement tour, it’s on him.
Joe Hendry believed he had a genuine chance to face John Cena in a match. He mentioned that Cena put the responsibility on him to make it happen and also gave him valuable advice. He had mentioned that, “I have to put myself in a position where me versus John Cena is one of the most compelling matchups in professional wrestling.”
Joe Hendry already had a brief moment with Roman Reigns at the Royal Rumble and went one-on-one with 15-time World Champion Randy Orton at WrestleMania 41. Now, as John Cena’s retirement tour reaches its halfway point, Hendry continues to chase a match with him.
The former TNA World Champion made it clear that if the match doesn’t happen, it’ll be because he didn’t take the right steps to make it possible. Speaking on the Battleground podcast, Joe Hendry said, “Showing up in the [Royal] Rumble was crazy, but if I’d have told you in March, ‘Hey, I’m going to wrestle Randy Orton at WrestleMania in featured singles match,’ that would have sounded pretty crazy right?”
“Does me wrestling John Cena sound that crazy? It’s in the realm of possibility. If it happens, it’s because I did everything I was supposed to do. If it doesn’t happen, it’s because I dropped the ball, and like I said, that’s already happened once this year, can’t let it happen again.” [H/T: WrestlingInc]
John Cena reveals the advice he gave to Joe Hendry
After winning the WWE Undisputed Title at WrestleMania 41, John Cena appeared on The Pat McAfee Show. He spoke about TNA star Joe Hendry when Hendry’s name came up.
“So Joe’s awesome,” John Cena said. “And I got a chance to meet Joe at the Rumble face to face. He had a small moment in the Rumble, and he’s like, hey, uh, you’re good at this. How do I make this more? And I gave him some advice, like, you don’t. You go out there and you make your moment, your moment. When you try to make your moment more than is given, that’s selfish, and you’re a small piece of a greater show.”
“And I thought he did excellent at the Rumble. And last night, I thought he was brilliant. What I got to do is if I don’t know that kid, I got to know him. He got to do his stuff. He got to be in a WrestleMania match with Randy Orton, and he got a fantastic moment. And giving Randy his 20th WrestleMania, but we got an introduction on a large level to Joe Hendry. Just because I didn’t bring his name up doesn’t mean I’m sour on the kid. I think he’s gonna be a major player because he loves it, and he gets it right. He’s got a great mind.”
