John Cena remembers it like it was yesterday.
Cena portrayed Fred Figglehorn’s dad in the Nickelodeon TV movie, Fred: The Movie. Cena also reprised the role in two sequel films and a television series. The Fred character used Cena as a stand-in for his absent father, and often said that his dad lived in the refrigerator. Cena’s version of Fred’s dad is shown to be protective of Fred, and gives his son (imaginary) life advice.
During his appearance at Fan Expo Dallas, Cena was asked to choose his favorite memory about the Fred movies. The current WWE Champion was quick to answer, describing what filming inside an old, smelly refrigerator was really like.
“Living in the refrigerator. Because they were such low-budget movies that they got an old refrigerator, and that smelled like an old refrigerator. And I had to close the door and stay in there and come out, and it was like in a junkyard,” Cena explained. “I remember the smell and the yellow paint on the fridge like it was yesterday.”
Last week on SmackDown, Cena closed the show by cutting his own version of CM Punk’s ‘Pipe Bomb’ promo. While doing so, Cena namedropped some released WWE Superstars, implying that they were names CM Punk tried to hold back.
Cena mentioned stars such as AEW’s Claudio Castagnoli (Cesaro), TNA’s Nic Nemeth (Dolph Ziggler), and the Death Match King Matt Cardona. Cena is set to defend his title against CM Punk at Night Of Champions on June 28, and you can check out Cardona’s response to the Pipe Bomb promo here.
