In a shocking moment tonight on WWE RAW, John Cena said he’d put his Undisputed WWE Championship on the line in Saudi Arabia…against CM Punk.
During Monday’s episode of WWE RAW, Cena said he was looking for a real competitor to come at him, since he only has 18 dates remaining before he retires. Punk came out to the roar of the crowd, and went in on his longtime rival. In a lengthy promo, Punk said that he’s a man of the people, and wants to restore the title to them.
Punk said that if Cena was really man enough, he would accept a challenge for Punk for the title. If Cena was really the last great champion, Punk said, he’d even set the match for tonight. Surprisingly, Cena quickly agreed to facing off against Punk, but not in Phoenix. Instead, Cena said, it’d be in Saudi Arabia, at WWE Night of Champions, if Punk wanted.
The challenge comes as a bit of a shock, namely due to Punk’s rumored feelings of performing in Saudi Arabia. It remains unknown whether or not WWE will fully confirm the match, or if something might happen between now and then to stop it. However, as it stands, it seems like Punk may be heading to Night of Champions.
Why do people think CM Punk hates Saudi Arabia?
CM Punk recently went live on Instagram and answered fan questions during a Q&A session. One fan asked him why he hates going to Saudi Arabia, and Punk gave an interesting answer.
Punk’s remarks are notable due to him infamously taking a major shot at The Miz over the topic. When he returned to WWE Backstage, Punk famously stated that he was there to “change the culture.” Miz took a dig at him and mocked the “change the culture” line. This resulted in Punk telling Miz to “go suck a blood money covered dick in Saudi Arabia you fucking dork.”
CM Punk ultimately deleted the post, and The Miz has said that Punk apologized for the response. However, Punk has still never performed at any of WWE’s events in Saudi Arabia.
