R-Truth is back in WWE, but how did it happen?
Truth was released by WWE last week, as he announced the news himself on June 1. His release was reportedly a financial move, but it was also a very unpopular decision. Fans and peers were vocal about being upset over the news, feeling like Truth was someone who WWE should have kept on.
It appears that WWE listened, as Truth made a shocking return at Money In The Bank on Saturday night. The main event match saw a masked man run in and attack John Cena. That man removed his mask, revealing Truth as the culprit to everyone in the arena.
How did R-Truth’s WWE return happen?
PWInsider.com initially reported that Truth’s new deal came together within the past 72 hours. According to a new report from Fightful (via Fightful Select), Nick Khan was the one who took over negotiations with Truth. It was noted that Truth was initially approached about a return, but he “didn’t seem to entertain the calls.” Things took a positive turn when Khan got involved. It’s rare that Khan gets involved in negotiations, but this situation was “important to the company and locker room.”
According to one higher-up in WWE, R-Truth’s return is seen as a positive sign that the company is actually listening to fan feedback. Truth’s return was very well received by the roster.
In case you’re wondering if this was a worked storyline, it was not. Truth’s release was legitimate, and the company changed course and brought him back under a new deal. Fightful notes that when talent directly asked Truth and WWE executives if it was legit, they also said his release was not a work. Truth’s own family has indicated that the new deal was put together late in the week.
