Mark Copani, who portrayed Hassan, didn’t like the direction WWE took his character and was vocal about it. He says leaning into the “terrorist” aspects of his gimmick was supposed to lead to a program with Batista and The Undertaker, and a world title reign.
However, the gimmick drew considerable backlash after WWE aired a pre-taped segment where he choked Undertaker with a wire. This aired unedited the same day that a terrorist attack took place in London in 2005.
The season six finale of Dark Side of the Ring airs on May 27 at 10 pm on VICE.
