On WWE RAW, Zoey Stark suffered a devastating injury in the women’s Money in the Bank qualifying match.
The match featured Zoey Stark, Rhea Ripley and the returning Kairi Sane all competed for a spot in the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match. The match took a turn when, Stark awkwardly landed on her leg after a springboard dropkick on Sane, causing her to scream in pain. WWE officials removed her from the match due to the injury.
With Stark out, Rhea Ripley and Kairi Sane finished the rest of the match. The finish saw Ripley pinned Sane to secure the victory. Sane took the pinfall loss after returning to the ring following a five-month absence.
On the Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez explained that Zoey Stark’s injury forced WWE to change the entire second half of the match, including the finish. “The other two had to work an impromptu match since Zoey was going to be doing a bunch of spots, and taking the fall. But she was not there. And so they basically just stalled out a long one-on-one match until Rhea pinned her [Sane] with the…Riptide. So Rhea’s going to Money in the Bank.” [H/T: WrestlingInc]
However, Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer indicated that WWE planned for Rhea Ripley to win. However, Zoey Stark would have taken the pinfall loss instead of Kairi Sane. Following the devastating injury, several superstars, including Rhea Ripley, Kairi Sane, Bayley, and more sent out their wishes to Zoey Stark for a speedy recovery.
