In 2023, hell froze over when the Second City Saint CM Punk made his return to WWE after nearly a decade. Since his return, there has been a lot of speculation that his wife, the former WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee, would also be returning to the Stamford-based promotion. Recently, the new WWE Women’s United States Champion Zelina Vega shared her thoughts on the possibility of Lee returning to WWE.
While speaking to Steve Fall of Ten Count Media, Zelina Vega shared that if AJ Lee returns to WWE at the SummerSlam Premium Live Event, it would be one of the biggest pops in WWE history. She felt that would be the case as the biggest event of the Summer will be taking place in AJ Lee’s hometown of New Jersey.
“I think especially, because she is from Jersey, so if she came back at SummerSlam it would be like colossal. That would be insane. I feel like the same fans who were so hungry for CM Punk to come back are the same ones that are going to be so hungry for her to come back. So, I don’t know if it is going to be bigger, or less, or whatever. But I think it’ll probably be about the same. They’re both like just big players in the game that I think especially because, once they saw him, they were hoping she wouldn’t be too far behind. So, not only does she have fans that are so happy to want to see her back, but a lot of us backstage too, like, we loved her.”

During the same interview, Vega mentioned that the former WWE Divas Champion was always very kind and sweet. She also reflected on her experience playing AJ Lee in Fighting With My Family. She also stated that everybody backstage at WWE would also want to see AJ Lee back in the Stamford-based promotion.
“Obviously, some people knew her personally, her and I trained in Jersey before she got to WWE. So, knowing her from then to then seeing her when I was coming in as an extra, she was always so kind. She was always so sweet to me and trying to help me. And then, having to play her in the movie, I had to like, study her vocal patterns and like, make sure, if anything I have control over, it’s the voice. So, I can imitate that and make sure that it sounds about right for her. But yeah, it’s not just the fans, but everybody backstage wants to see her back too. So, I hope that she does come back. Because, I’d love to see her,” Zelina Vega said.
