WWE NXT Champion Oba Femi set to defend his title against a surprising opponent at Battleground.
On WWE NXT, 25 Superstars battled for a chance to face Oba Femi for the NXT Championship at WWE Battleground. The match featured major names including Trick Williams, Ethan Page, Lexis King, Wes Lee, and Shawn Spears. Even TNA’s Elijah, formerly known as Elias, made a surprise appearance that electrified the fans.
Despite the star-studded lineup, the outcome shocked many fans. The final four competitors were Je’Von Evans, Shawn Spears, Ethan Page, and Myles Borne. As all the stars battled for a shot at Oba Femi’s NXT Championship, the action intensified.
In the climax saw pears and Page eliminated Evans by sending him crashing over the top rope. Page then tried to eliminate Spears, but Spears managed to hang on. Borne capitalized by eliminating Page, who in turn pulled Spears out with him. With that dramatic finish, Myles Borne secured his place as the number one contender and will now face Oba Femi for the NXT Championship at WWE Battleground.
Oba Femi believes high-flying style has overshadowed big-man wrestling
Oba Femi mentioned in a January interview with Uncrowned that the wrestling world has lost the art of big-man wrestling, as today’s norm favors a high-flying, fast-paced indie style.
“I’ve come around at a very opportune time when big-man wrestling is not the main thing. It’s become like a niche, almost a lost art because everyone’s doing Canadian Destroyers and everyone’s high flying and everyone’s spring-boarding, trying to pop the crowd. … It’s refreshing that the fans get to see an Oba Femi who comes in and stays on the ground and is physical and fires up and is riled up. I think people miss that.”
