The WWE Intercontinental Championship will be on the line at Backlash, in a match between two polarizing figures.
As announced during tonight’s episode of WWE RAW, Dominik Mysterio will defend his newly won title against Penta. The match came together after a backstage segment on RAW, where Mysterio and The Judgment Day were informed of the match. AJ Styles was also on hand, and said he would be coming after the winner of the match.
Mysterio recently won the title at WrestleMania 41, in a Fatal Four-Way Match that also included Bron Breakker (the then-champion), Finn Bálor, and Penta himself. The rest of WWE Backlash’s card includes the following:
- Undisputed WWE Championship: John Cena (c) vs. Randy Orton
- WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship: Lyra Valkyria (c) vs. Becky Lynch
- Pat McAfee vs. Gunther
- Fatal Four-Way Match for WWE United States Championship: Jacob Fatu (c) vs. LA Knight vs. Damian Priest vs. Drew McIntyre
- WWE Intercontinental Championship: Dominik Mysterio (c) vs. Penta
