Booker T will never forget his first WrestleMania.
WrestleMania X8 marked Booker T’s first match at the “Show of Shows.” He faced Edge on the card, and the feud was over a fictional Japanese shampoo commercial. As silly as the story was, WrestleMania X8 was a very important moment in Booker’s career. During a recent panel at WWE World, Booker reflected on what the moment meant and said debuting at WrestleMania is a moment that he’ll never forget.
“Man, it was surreal. Being in Canada, going against Edge [Adam Copeland]. I remember walking out the curtain and I remember before I walked out the curtain, I remember Undertaker, he was sitting in what we call the Gorilla Position. He said, ‘Make sure you take it all in.’ And I really, I really didn’t think about that before he said that. And then I walked out on stage and I stopped and I just looked around. There was like 70,000 people. And I was like, ‘Wow, man! This is freaking… This is awesome.’ Because you got to think about it, [there are] 70,000 people coming to see that 20 by 20 square foot [ring]. That’s all. That’s it. You know what I mean? It’s not a football field or anything like that. [It’s just the] 20 by 20 [ring].
Booker T hopes others get a chance to experience WrestleMania like he did
Booker noted that nothing will ever top that first moment. He hopes that young talent breaking into the business will get at least one moment like that, and encouraged them to enjoy it.
“It’s awesome. It’s the most, you know, adrenaline rush you’re ever going to have. Nothing is ever going to top that moment. So, get that out of your head. When it’s all over with, take it and savor that moment and hopefully you’ll get a few more of those moments. And for me, I definitely got a chance to have many more of those WrestleMania moments. But, for young people that’s getting into this business that think about it and wonder about it, I say, Man, go out there and work your a** off to really make it happen, to have that WrestleMania moment. At least just one time. Trust me, something you’ll remember for the rest of your life,” Booker T said.
Booker T competed at WrestleMania six times in his career. He was 1-5 at WrestleMania, picking up his lone win teaming with Rob Van Dam against La Resistance, The Dudley Boyz, and Garrison Cade and Mark Jindrak in a four-way match.
