Matt Riddle has a tall task in front of him next month as he’ll defend the MLW World Heavyweight Championship against a former WWE Superstar at Azteca Lucha.
Major League Wrestling announced in a press release today that Riddle will defend the MLW World Championship against Donovan Dijak at Azteca Lucha on May 10.
Below is an excerpt from MLW’s press release that details how this main event came to be:
At Battle RIOT, Riddle was blindsided during an appearance on Sessions by Saint Laurent—attacked mid-interview by Dijak, in a savage ambush orchestrated by Saint Laurent himself. Alongside Bishop Dyer, Dijak brutalized the World Champ, repeatedly crushing Riddle’s ribs with a steel chair in an assault that left the champ injured and reeling.
Reports indicate Riddle is still recovering from two broken ribs. But hasn’t stopped the fighting champion from accepting the challenge.
Here is the current card for MLW Azteca Lucha:
- MLW World Heavyweight Championship: Matt Riddle (c) vs. Donovan Dijak (w/ MSL)
- Alex Hammerstone vs. Satoshi Kojima
- Mistico vs. Templario vs. Ikuro Kwon
- Atlantis and Esfinge vs. Guerrero Maya Jr. and Hechicero
