Plenty of people still want to see WrestleMania take place in the UK, including London’s Mayor.
WrestleMania in the UK is something fans have been asking for for many years, but it has yet to happen. London Mayor Sadiq Khan spoke with WWE about bringing WrestleMania to the United Kingdom. This includes taking a meeting with Nick Khan and Triple H last year. Khan noted that he wants London to become “WrestleMania’s first international destination”.
“I am delighted to have met with WWE Hall of Famer Paul “Triple H” Levesque and WWE President Nick Khan today.” Sadiq Khan said during a public address in July 2024. “To discuss how we can work to make London WrestleMania’s first international destination. London has great pedigree in hosting the biggest international sporting events from around the globe. And I’m determined to cement our city’s reputation as the undisputed sports capital of the world, as we work together for a better London for everyone. It’s exciting to be working with the WWE team. The meeting was really productive, and talks will continue about how we could turn our ambition into a reality.”
Mayor Sadiq Khan is determined to bring WrestleMania to London
Mayor Khan reaffirmed his commitment to bringing WrestleMania overseas. This statement came in a new report touting the economic impact major sporting events have on London’s economy.
“Building on London’s success, the Mayor has talked up his ambition to bring more of the biggest sporting events in the world to London,” the report stated. “Sadiq has expressed his support for a bid for the Olympics and Paralympics to return to London in 2040, while he remains committed to making London WrestleMania’s first international destination. The Mayor is also in positive discussions with the NBA to bring games back to the capital, which is supported by the work of his Basketball Taskforce. The 2029 World Athletics Championships is another target.”
“London is the sporting capital of the world and I am proud that we have such a strong track record of staging the biggest and best international events in our great city,” Khan said in a statement. “This report highlights the significant economic and cultural benefits major sporting events provide for our city and the huge pride and excitement they create for Londoners and visitors. These events shine a global spotlight on the capital and inspire young Londoners to get involved in grassroots sport, and I am focused on bringing even more to our city as we work together to build a better, healthier, more prosperous London for all.”
Which WrestleMania would London be up for?
WrestleMania 41 took place in Las Vegas. It’s been reported that WWE is considering a return to Sin City in the next 3-5 years. WrestleMania 42 has also been publicly confirmed as taking place at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. That would mean the earliest WrestleMania that London could get is WrestleMania 43, which has not been announced yet.
There’s no denying the economic impact that WrestleMania has on a respective host city. WWE is already touting WrestleMania 41 as the most successful event in the company’s entire history. WrestleMania 39 generated $215 million for the Los Angeles region. Philadelphia expected a similar number for hosting last year’s WrestleMania 40.
