WWE legend Gangrel once unknowingly split blood on the 45th and 47th U.S. President, Donald Trump, in the late 1990s.
Gangrel portrayed a famous supernatural vampire gimmick, with a key part of his entrance involving carrying a glass of blood, drinking it, and spraying it into the air toward the fans. During one of his matches against Kane at Madison Square Garden, one of Gangrel’s blood spits towards the fans turned out to be on Donald Trump. Check out the photo here.
While drinking the blood, Gangrel noticed the crowd growing more excited, with people urging Trump to move back. Instead of stepping back, Trump pushed forward, where he got blood spray over him, which caused the fans to erupt in a loud reaction.
Speaking on Inside the Ropes, he said that when he spotted Trump in the crowd, he wasn’t aware of him. “So, apparently, while I was drinking the blood, people were trying to tell Donald Trump. They were touching him, telling him to move back. So instead of moving back, he pushed forward, like, ‘Oh, he’s going to spray’ So he went forward, pushed forward, and that’s when everyone started popping. Everybody was watching it, but me. Everybody knew it was Donald Trump in there, but me. So I drink that blood, and I hear the people, and I spit it harder than I ever spit it and sprayed it. I mean, it probably could’ve hit the last row from me. I mean, it was that much energy.”
Gangrel remembers the chaos of spitting blood on Donald Trump backstage
Gangrel recalls walking backstage after the incident backstage, crew members congratulated him, revealing that he had accidentally sprayed blood all over Donald Trump. “And then I started thinking, “Oh sh*t, I spit on Donald Trump. What does that mean. That’s Vince’s friend?” And, “Oh, f**k, I’m thinking, ‘This isn’t good.’” You know? So I’m not trying to high-five anyone. I’m going, like, “What just happened?” You know? Trying to digest it down. Then I go, “Well, it was that guy, obviously, but how did this all happen?” And then Stephanie says, “My dad’s not happy.”
“You know, you spit all over his friend. He has him ringside. You sprayed the blood all over him.” I’m like, “Why the f**k he’s sitting there? You know anything about the blood? I spray it every night there, or whatever. That’s routine.” And, you know, I just didn’t even know what to say. I was just thinking, “Oh, crap, man.”
Gangrel on Vince McMahon’s surprising reaction after spraying blood on Donald Trump
Gangrel reveals that he was informed Vince McMahon wanted to see him after the incident with Donald Trump. After several days of waiting, he finally had the chance to meet McMahon and was surprised by his reaction.
“So I walked in there, ready. I didn’t do anything clownish, like put my feet up on the desk or anything like that. He was sitting in there when I went in, and I go, “I’m sorry.” He just started laughing. Vince just started laughing, and he goes, “That was great.” So apparently, Trump wanted to go. He knew that I would spray the blood like a mindless zombie like that I was. I would just go out there and do that.”
“He planned that whole thing. That’s why he added us on the show, sat him there, and knew that I would go out there and spray the blood. But then he realized how I bit into it, and it was a double rib. It was a rib on me too. So, we got both of us. He just had the time of his life. So that’s how Vince did the magazine thing, and I said, “Duck Donald Duck,” but that didn’t even show it. He got covered in that blood.”
