WWE Hall of Famers Bret Hart and Goldberg have had a strange relationship, mostly because of one major incident that forever linked them.
During a match in WCW, Goldberg accidentally kicked Bret Hart in the head. That move ended Hart’s wrestling career. Since then, Hart has spoken out more and more against him, blaming him for the injury.
On the other hand, Goldberg has apologized many times and always shown respect for Hart, calling him a veteran who helped him in his early days. Due to their history, fans had some fun adding Bret Hart into Goldberg’s retirement match.
Over the weekend, Goldberg wrestled his final match against Gunther at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. The match saw Gunther retaining his World Heavyweight title by putting the legend in his signature sleeper hold. Goldberg tried to break free, but he passed out, and the referee ended the match.
Fans joked that Bret Hart cut off Goldberg’s speech
After the match, WCW legend gave an emotional farewell speech. He thanked his fans and family, but unfortunately, his speech was cut short during the live broadcast on NBC due to time constraints. Fans quickly turned the moment into a joke, “crediting” Bret Hart for the error.
Many shared memes that showed Bret Hart in the production truck cutting off WCW legend’s speech. A parody account shared a meme with Hart saying, “I would’ve cut it off sooner than NBC did. I would have stopped it as soon as his entrance music started.” Another fan used the famous “wrong button” meme featuring AEW star Kazuchika Okada to make fun of the situation.
However, WWE later released Hall of Famer’s complete and uncut retirement speech on its digital platforms, which also featured former WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes coming out to thank the legend for his contributions to the business.
Goldberg’s speech getting cut off was a result of an unfortunate timing issue stemming from Seth Rollins’ injury earlier in the show. However, the legitimacy of the injury has now been called into question.
