John Cena just wants to do the right thing.
Cena appeared on Late Night with Stephen Colbert to promote his new film, Heads of State. During the conversation, Colbert asked Cena what the vibe is like when Cena performs at huge stadiums for major WWE events like WrestleMania.
“It is just a jumblefuck of confusion,” Cena said.
“So, as he takes diligent notes [Cena laughs as Colbert mimes writing down his quote], normally, WWE is an arena spectacle, so it’s like 14,000 [or] 15,000 people. Great crowd, but you can understand, so like the crowd wants to dictate, mimic the [rest of the] crowd. So like 500 people will start chanting something and then everyone will catch on,” Cena continued.
“But the stadium shows are like a collection of the ‘superfans’ and they all want to be heard,” Cena added. “And we encourage the WWE audience to be not like you guys and be very loud at all times, so you can’t even hear yourself think! And in a stadium, one place will be chanting something and another place will be chanting something. You’ll try to [react to that] and be like, ‘I don’t even know what to do!’ So it literally is a ‘jumblefuck of confusion.’”
John Cena highlights how difficult working for the audience can be
“Wow. And that’s part of the thrill?” Colbert asked.
“No. It’s difficult,” Cena said, emphasizing the ‘difficult’ part. “I want to be able to do the right thing for the audience.”
“Oh, so you don’t really know how to respond because you’re not sure which way this horse is going to kick! I call that a jumblefuck rodeo,” Colbert quipped. Cena then playfully jotted the phrase down on a notecard, mimicking Colbert’s actions upon hearing the original quote.
Heads of State will be able to stream on demand starting on July 2.
