Tuesday Night Titans is on its way back, although it’s not the one wrestling fans are familiar with.
The landscape of pro wrestling changed when Netflix made a deal to stream WWE on its platform. Netflix streams Monday Night Raw in the United States. The streaming giant also airs Raw, NXT, SmackDown, and all Premium Live Events internationally.
Now, a report has emerged that Netflix is expanding its involvement in the wrestling world. It is reportedly developing a brand new wrestling-based drama series called Tuesday Night Titans.
As reported first by Deadline, ‘Titans’ is rumored to be in early development. The series is created by former writer of Monday Night Raw, Michael Notarile, who is also one of the Executive Producers. The other Executive Producer is John M. Chu of ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ fame.
What is Tuesday Night Titans about?
According to Deadline, Tuesday Night Titans is “Set in the spectacle-driven world of professional wrestling, Tuesday Night Titans follows a tenacious writer who risks her career in the big leagues to recruit her estranged childhood best friend – a ‘jobber’ wrestler on the indies – to join the same behemoth company they idolized in their youth. Their destinies become entangled as they battle personal demons, ruthless colleagues, and their complicated history in an industry where ‘kayfabe’ – wrestling’s staged reality – isn’t confined to the ring, but bleeds into every aspect of their lives.”
Tuesday Night Titans is also the name of WWE’s (then-WWF’s) 1980s wrestling variety talk show. That show ran on USA Network, but it is not connected to the new series.
When Deadline asked about the show, the streaming juggernaut refused to comment on it. Netflix and WWE are also working on a special series, WWE Unreal, that will dive into what happens behind the scenes in WWE.
