Goldberg says his son was offered a WWE NIL deal, but he had to put a stop to it.
The four-time world champion was a recent guest on The Ariel Helwani Show. There, he expressed his appreciation and frustration surrounding his retirement match, which took place at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event this past weekend.
During the exchange, Goldberg also shared that WWE offered his son, Gage, an NIL (Next In Line) deal. Gage is currently enrolled at the University of Colorado, where he plays football. Gage has shown an interest in WWE and appeared ringside during his father’s retirement match. Despite that, the elder Goldberg said he had to put a stop to the NIL deal.
Goldberg shares why he stopped his son’s WWE NIL deal
“They tried to give [Gage] an NIL [deal],” Goldberg said. “But when I found out how much they were going to give him, I put the brakes on that one.
Goldberg did not share a dollar amount of the contract that he turned down on behalf of his son. Despite putting the “brakes” on it, he still recognized that WWE has to know that pro wrestling could be in his son’s future.
“But they’d be ignorant if they didn’t have an idea that [WWE] could be in his future,” he added.
Although he is currently focused on football, Gage has called WWE his “backup plan” in past interviews.
Overall, Goldberg said he had fun in the match with Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event. However, he expressed why he was “pissed off” about the way he went out. During the interview, he also clarified his in-ring status.
Triple H also commented on the potential of seeing the younger Goldberg in the ring, claiming that Gage “probably won’t be the last Goldberg in the business.”
