Did we really see Goldberg‘s last match over the weekend at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event?
WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg was a recent guest on The Ariel Helwani Show. When asked if he’ll ever wrestle again, Goldberg said he can’t say that for sure, but in principle, he’s done.
“I can’t say that,” Goldberg said. “I mean, in principle, yeah, I’m done. But I worked my ass off for five months, and I don’t think I’ve dedicated that much of my life towards one goal, like one night. And I don’t know, I would be remiss in saying that it did feel as though it was a waste, because I only went out there for 14 minutes, and that was it.
“But, yeah, man, I mean, I’m 58 years old. My body’s kind of torn to shreds. Hopefully, I was able to cover a lot of it up, and I had my retirement match. I had 91 people fly in from all around the world. They were personal guests of mine. I don’t know if I want to kickstart that again and say, hey guys, guess what? I didn’t retire. I’m going to go one more time. You don’t plan stuff like that. In the world of professional wrestling, I guess you’re not retired until you’re dead. But in principle, yeah, I’m retired.”
Don’t expect Goldberg back on WWE programming anytime soon
When asked if he might appear at SummerSlam, or if he’s done with this WWE run, Goldberg pretty much confirmed his time with the company has come to an end.
“Yeah. I don’t think I’m lingering anywhere around the WWE in the anytime future,” Goldberg said. “By any stretch of the imagination. But like I said, man, hey, wrestling world, you’re never retired until you’re dead. And I ain’t dead yet, man. So it was reinvigorating. It was a lot of fun. It taught me that I could do things that I never thought that I could do.”
If Goldberg has another match, it likely won’t be with AEW
If Goldberg is planning to get back in the ring outside of WWE, it likely won’t be for All Elite Wrestling. While the two sides had discussions several years ago, Goldberg’s comments about the promotion last year, calling it cheesy, clearly rubbed AEW President Tony Khan the wrong way.
