Matt Hardy‘s original pitch for his ‘Mattitude’ emblem was quite different from what WWE ended up using for his character during the Ruthless Aggression Era.
Former WWE superstar Matt Hardy recently revealed his original pitch for the ‘Mattitude’ emblem he came up in 2002. Matt ended up using a more straightforward “V1” logo on his shirts. However, the former multi-tag team champion posted two photos of the original Mattitude merch. This included a familiar upside-down ‘M’ for his Version 1.0 gimmick.
“DID YOU KNOW? Before Miz ever used the upside down WWE emblem, I pitched to use it as my emblem for MATTITUDE back in 2002,” Hardy wrote on Twitter/X. “This was the shirt I pitched to create when I started the Version 1.0 character.”
Matt Hardy explains why WWE didn’t approve his pitch
“It was designed, but didn’t get green-lit because the new WWE symbol (when they got the F out) was in its infancy & WWE management wanted to establish it as the new company branding. Totally understood but would have loved to “turn the WWE upside down with Mattitude!’”
The Mattitude gimmick became a staple part of Hardy’s solo run during the Ruthless Aggression Era. As Version 1.0, Hardy became a solid mid-card player on SmackDown, feuding with the likes of Rey Mysterio and Rhyno on the blue brand.
