WWE legend and Hall of Famer Jacqueline Moore recently opened up about the future of black wrestlers, particularly black women’s wrestlers, and how they’ve evolved.
Speaking to BET in a recent interview, Moore opened up about the shift toward more character-driven storytelling for many of the talent in wrestling. Specifically, she said she was happy to see more black wrestlers have the chance to shine in today’s day and age.
“I’m so happy that Black wrestlers, especially Black women wrestlers, have the opportunity to shine today,” said Moore. “Black women are getting more TV time and getting more storylines. It really makes my heart happy.”
Moore went on to highlight superstars like Bianca Belair, Naomi, and Jade Cargill as people living up to that hype.
“They are very talented, beautiful, strong, and their characters are compelling,” Moore said. “I love watching them. I’m so proud of them; they’re given the opportunity to showcase their talents. They are putting on a great show.”
Throughout her wrestling career, Moore also claimed a ton of championships, including titles in promotions like World Wrestling Council, Universal Wrestling Federation, United States Wrestling Association, Independent Association of Wrestling, and WWE, where she was a 2x WWF Women’s Champion, and WWE Cruiserweight Champion.
Moore joined WWE in 1993, and enjoyed a massively successful career there. Throughout her time, she managed the Harlem Heat team, Marc Mero, and also held the WWF Women’s Championship twice. In 2016, she was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Currently, she remains with the company as part of a Legends contract.
