WWE SummerSlam‘s Undisputed WWE Championship Match will be a good old-fashioned Street Fight.
During Friday’s episode of WWE SmackDown, Cody Rhodes and John Cena met to sign the contract to their match. In typical contract-signing fashion, things got off the rails pretty quick. Cody spoke about his brother Dustin and father Dusty, and how he wanted to be outlaws like them, but instead became Undisputed WWE Champion.
Cody then spoke about a recent cryptic post online, saying he told fans not to “flinch” in reference to him. He said he never flinched when getting into the ring with the likes of Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, Jey Uso, or Randy Orton. He said he didn’t flinch when “politics and The Final Boss” came for his soul, and he didn’t flinch against Cena at WrestleMania 41.
Now, he says, he still won’t flinch. Most importantly, Rhodes said, this match at SummerSlam was for the rest of his life. Cena then arrived to the ring, saying he had bad news for Cody. Cena revealed he actually wouldn’t even be at SummerSlam, due to a scheduling conflict. Cena said he had a movie to shoot, but would give Rhodes a rematch eventually.
As Cena left, this was clearly not good enough for Rhodes. Rhodes chased down Cena, with the two brawling outside of the ring. After throwing Cena into the ring, Cody countered a hit with the title, grabbing it and finally hitting Cena with it. Cody then put Cena through a table and hit a top rope splash. He then forcefully made Cena sign the contract for their match. As he did, he told Cena and the crowd the match would be a Street Fight for the title.
