Cody Rhodes is going to have to change things up… but when?
Kay Adams caught up with Rhodes at Fanatics Fest and asked if he ever gets tired of being the “good guy” all the time. First, Rhodes then mentioned his reasons for being a Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons fan (Three teams in the same conference… what?!?) He said that being a good guy helps with that, but noted he might be winding down in that regard.
“I really don’t have an allegiance, I am open for business. And that being a good guy aspect helps with it. I don’t ever get tired of it because you get to have all of this and these moments. I do think we’re probably at the tail end of it, though. Because there’s only so much someone can like you,” Cody Rhodes explained.
“I’d love to do it until the end of my career, but there’s only so much [I can do before it gets tired],” Rhodes added. “‘Oh, we do his ‘Waoh!’ and we cheer for him.’ At a certain point, they want to see someone else, and I get that. And that’s where I will have to change as a character.”
How will everyone know when Cody Rhodes starts down that new path?
“You’ll know because X and Instagram will hate it. Because today, heels are like ‘That’s a cool heel! We’re loving John Cena…’ No! If you’re burying it and hate it and talking about how you don’t want it on your TV, that’s what an actual bad guy is,” Rhodes said.
Adams then asked how much of a timeframe Cody Rhodes was giving before he changes course. Rhodes estimated fans have at least a year, but teased no one will know it until it happens.
“I think you have a good, solid year, maybe even three years,” Rhodes said. “Because I am not changing until I’m changed, if that makes sense.”
When asked if he would dye his hair to mark the turn, Rhodes was reluctant. However, he still teased that following The Final Boss still sees value in him being a bad guy, although he doesn’t exactly see it himself.
“My hair is naturally dark. I don’t know if I could go back, but if The Rock had it his way, I would have been changed already. So I think he sees something that I don’t see, and I think that is a smart individual, so maybe I follow his lead. Maybe not.”
