Bret Hart had his ups and downs with Vince McMahon, but knows there’s no excuse for some of his actions towards the end of his WWE career.
Hart recently spoke with The Rise Guys of 93.3 The Planet FM Greenville, SC / Rock 105 FM Chattanooga, TN. During the conversation, Hart was asked if he sees Vince ever being back in the wrestling business. Hart was skeptical it could happen as a startup, then highlighted how the culture in WWE has changed since McMahon stepped down.
“Vince had a great mind, and from what I gather from talking to young wrestlers in WWE today that Vince became a big obstacle in getting things done at the end. He almost became too much of a tyrant and seemed to be unhappy with everything that everybody was doing. He’d scrub ideas midway through the show… I had people tell me that since the day he left, it’s been tranquil and business has been better, everyone has a better attitude,” Hart said. “So Vince may have just burned himself out after a while. How many ideas can a guy come up with, wrestling storylines?”
When Bret heard the news about the sexual assault scandal, how did he react?
Bret Hart was then asked about Vince McMahon being involved in a sexual assault lawsuit. Hart, a noted amateur artist, said that everything McMahon was accused of is inexcusable, and the situation highlights how money can corrupt people.
“Well, I immediately thought — and I still do — I should draw it as a blackboard drawing. I would love to draw it for all the wrestlers in the dressing room. It would just be everything that happened. John Laurinaitis and the escapades that they were doing with that poor girl, shame on all of them. That’s just terrible,” Hart explained.
“I’ve always been — I’ve had ups and downs with Vince McMahon. In a lot of ways, I have a lot of respect for him, but at the same time, I find what happened there inexcusable. There’s no place for that,” Hart continued. “I think Vince McMahon became a predator and used wrestling as his backdrop for all of his evil. This just tells me too much money can turn you into a bad person.”
